The children stand in a line, about ten feet apart, each resting his hands on his thighs and bending his head forward. This is called "making a back." The child at the rear of the line takes a short run and leaps over each of the others, placing his hands on their backs and jumping, legs apart. The child who is leaped assists the leaper by rising slightly as he jumps. When the leaper has leaped over each of the other children, he makes a back at the head of the line, and the child at the rear becomes the leaper.
For more fun: Leapfrog can be played as a race. Divide into two teams, and begin at a starting line. The team that leapfrogs to the finish line first is the winner.
