Lesson 78 Enva n'Emmere

Tulya enva awamu n'emmere.
(We eat sauce together with [starchy] food.)
Enva kye kintu kye tulya awamu n'emmere.
(Sauce is something we eat with [starchy] food.)
Amatooke ye mmere enkulu mu Buganda.
Amatooke is the chief [starchy] food of Buganda.
Lumonde ye ngeri endala ey'emmere.
(Sweet potatoe is another [starchy] food.)
Emmere gye tulina mu Buganda ya ngeri nnyingi.
(We have many kinds of [starchy] food in Buganda.)
Ennyama eya buli ngeri tugiyita nva.
(Meat of every sort [of stew], we call it sauce.)
Ebintu byonna ebiyinza okuliibwa awamu n'emmere biyitiibwa nva.
(All things which can be eaten [as to make up stew] are called sauce.)

Singa olya lumonde wo n’ebijanjaalo lumonde omuyita mmere, ebinjanjaalo obiyita nva.
(If you eat your sweet potato with beans, you call the sweet potato [starchy] food and you call beans [stew] sauce.)
Singa olya amatooke n’enkoko, ennyama y’enkoko ogiyita nva ng’ate amatooke ogayita mmere.
(If you eat matooke with chicken [stew], you call the matooke [starchy] food and you call the chicken [stew] sauce.)
Singa olya muwogo n’ebinywebwa, ebinywebwa obiyita nva, ate muwogo omuyita mmere.
(If you eat your cassava with groundnuts [sauce], you call groundnuts [sauce] sauce, the cassava is called [starchy] food.)
